The Girl in the Painting (Her Tears)

from Approximate Symmetry by Maxi Göthling

about

"The Girl in the Painting (Her Tears)" is breaking the fourth wall. it's about the girl on the cover who's plagued by being trapped in a world that does not understand her. But the true agony of her existence is her undying and untamable curiosity. To be able to imagine a world behind the curtain is what drives her, gives her hope, but it's that desire that confronts her with the failings of her current existence. The lack of control that's taken away from her. The eternal loneliness.
This song is her daydreaming of being free, floating in a protective bubble through her imaginary world behind the curtain. A world she'll probably never really be able to visit.

Is this song about defeat? I really don't know.
But her tears are in the strings.
